Tonight, the name Diana Brown resonates with a profound new significance, echoing beyond the familiar streets of Albany's Ward 6. This is not just the dawn of a new commissioner; it's the recognition of a lifelong dedication to human rights, a commitment recently honored with a prestigious award. Born and raised in Tifton, Georgia, before making Albany her home for 27 years and later Miami for nine, Diana's journey has been a testament to her unwavering passion: advocating for people.

Even during her years in cosmetology and factory work, a deeper calling stirred within her. Armed with diplomas in cosmetology, clerical and retail sales, business administration, law enforcement technology, and various business and medical administrative specializations, Diana's pursuit of knowledge was always intertwined with a desire to serve.

Her advocacy took root early. In 1988, while studying cosmetology, she stood up for single parents facing discriminatory denial by Section 8, directly engaging with the NAACP to open doors for Black families in Albany. This early act of defiance against injustice foreshadowed a career dedicated to empowering the marginalized.

Returning to Albany, Diana's commitment only deepened. From serving on the Policy Council Board Member for Southwest Ga. Tift CDC HeadStart to tirelessly lobbying in Atlanta for the passage of House Bill 404 in 2024 – a landmark achievement providing crucial support for tenants – her actions speak volumes. The establishment of Ossie's Fair Housing & Homecare Inc. and Ossie's Catering and More LLP further illustrate her multifaceted approach to community empowerment.

For 36 years, Diana Brown has been a steadfast advocate in Southwest Georgia, volunteering with outreach programs, assisting disabled tenants, and diligently gathering and sharing vital information. Her life is a tapestry woven with threads of compassion, integrity, and an unwavering belief in doing what is right.

Tonight, as she steps into the role of Commissioner for Ward 6, it is not merely a change in title. It is the culmination of a life dedicated to fighting for human rights, a dedication that has earned her profound respect and now, a distinguished award. Diana Brown's journey, from her early activism to this pivotal moment, is a powerful narrative of a true champion for the people, ready to build a brighter future for her community.
