- Have you ever wanted to meet the Cedric Scott, the Chief of the Albany FIre Department? You can on Tuesday, April 22, by registering for Coffee with the Chief. You can ask him questions, get to know some of the Albany firefighters, all while enjoying a fresh cup of coffee.
- You can also get a tour of Firehouse 1. Firefighters will show attendees around, including the kitchen, living room, and of course, the fire engines.
Wednesday, April 23 - Practice for a Purpose:
- The Southwest Georgia Regional Airport, in collaboration with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Dougherty County EMS, the Albany Fire Department, the Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB), Albany Technical College, the Albany Police Department, City staff, the American Red Cross, and the Air Traffic Control Tower, will host a full-scale plane crash drill at the Airport and Albany Tech. This gives first responders a chance to practice in the event of a plane crash within city/county limits. This exercise will be evaluated by certified personnel from MCLB. The drill will begin at 9 a.m. If you see smoke and fire at the airport on this day between 9 a.m. and noon, please note that IT IS ONLY AN EXERCISE.
Thursday, April 24 - Pones Cemetery Clean-Up and Job Fair:
- Join the City of Albany to learn about the Historical Significance of the Pones Cemetery and help clean up the area to brighten up the graves of those laid to rest there. We will begin at 9 a.m. at the cemetery located at the south corner of Old Radium Springs Road and E. Highland Avenue. Bring rakes, gloves, and weed eaters if you have any.
- Are you or someone you looking for a job? Come down to the Albany Civic Center, 100 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard, on Thursday, April 24, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be staff there to explain what jobs are available in their departments, provide help filling out the job application, and even provide on-site interviews for some positions.
Saturday, April 26 - Thanking Staff and Their Families:
- City Manager Terrell Jacobs knows that it isn't just the City staff that makes sacrifices to keep the City running. It takes a lot of love and support from our families and friends as well. So, to thank staff and their loved ones, the City Manager's Office will host Family Fun Day, a chance for staff and their families to have some much needed fun together. During this event, staff and their loved ones will get to win prizes playing Bingo!, enjoy inflatable events, get their faces painted, pet animals from Chehaw Zoo, dunk the City Manager, eat hamburgers and hot dogs, and most importantly, spend some quality time together.
